Convenient Payment of General Taxes
Clavin Offers Convenient Options for Payment of
General Taxes
Receiver of Taxes Don Clavin reminds residents to take advantage of a
variety of payment options as the deadline for paying the second half
2008 general taxes approaches. Taxpayers who prefer to make payments
in person can avail themselves of satellite offices, the mobile tax
office and the EZ-Pay drive thru payment window located behind the
town receiver's office in Hempstead. In addition, tax bills can be
paid by credit card or e-check, online or via telephone. Tax payments
received or postmarked by August 11 will be penalty-free, as the
August 10 deadline falls on a Sunday.
"My office offers residents the highest level of service with extended
hours of operation and multiple locations to pay their tax bills,"
said Clavin. "Residents who prefer to pay their tax bills in person
may do so at the main office and the EZ-Pay drive thru payment window
in Hempstead or at one of our satellite offices or mobile town hall
locations."
Clavin has extended office hours during peak collection times at the
main tax office located at 200 North Franklin Street in Hempstead.
Hours of operation will be 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. on August 1, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8
and 11. When making payment in person, residents should bring in the
entire tax bill. Tax stubs should not be detached from the bill. "Our
fully staffed main office can assist taxpayers with account inquiries
and all forms of payment," Clavin said.
The E-Z Pay drive thru payment window, located behind the tax office
at 200 North Franklin Street (follow the signs on the corner of Bedell
Street and North Franklin Street), will be open from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
on August 1, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8 and 11. Only checks and money order
payments can be accepted at the E-Z Pay drive thru payment window. In
order to take advantage of this facility, taxpayers must bring their
tax stub.
Residents who would like to pay via credit card or e-check may log
onto the towns website at www.TOH.LI and follow links to "Online Tax
Payments," or call Official Payments Corporation toll-free at
1-877-306-6056. A convenience fee of 2.5% of the total tax payment
will be incurred for credit card payments. A flat fee of $2 will be
charged for electronic check payments. Hempstead Town receives no
portion of these fees.
"Our mobile town hall and satellite offices bring town government to
local neighborhoods," remarked Clavin. "This is especially convenient
for residents who have limited time or ability to travel to the main
tax office and desire to make their tax payments in person by check or
money order."
Satellite offices at Rock Hall Museum (located at 199 Broadway in
Lawrence) and Levittown Hall (located at 201 Levittown Parkway in
Hicksville) will be open from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on August 5, 6, 7, 8
and 11. The Mobile Tax Office will visit the following locations from
11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. as follows:
Monday, August 4- Merrick Senior Center, 2550 Clubhouse Rd., Merrick
Tuesday, August 5- Lido Beach Town Park, Lido Blvd., Lido Beach
Wednesday, August 6- Town Parking Lot O-3, Davison Ave., Oceanside
(directly across from Oceanside Library)
Thursday, August 7- Elmont Memorial Library, 700 Hempstead Turnpike,
Elmont
Friday, August 8- Franklin Square Senior Center, 1182 Martha Pl.,

"Supervisor Murray and I remain committed to assisting taxpayers in
every possible manner by offering top-notch services and supplying
residents with beneficial information that can help reduce their tax
burden," concluded Clavin.
