Beat The Heat:
Town Of Hempstead Opens Cooling Centers During Heat Wave
In an effort to help residents cope with the oppressive,
record-breaking heat,
Hempstead Town is extending hours of operation at 12 air-conditioned
senior citizen
centers.
Many residents do not have air conditioning, and the heat wave we are
experiencing
can pose genuine health risks,” commented Hempstead Town Supervisor
Kate Murray. “We
will open 12 cooling centers across the town to help neighbors beat
the heat.”
The centers will be open Monday and Tuesday, June 9 and 10, between
the hours of
9:00 a.m. and 8:00 p.m. The facilities are air-conditioned and there
are even
activities that will provide an opportunity for residents to interact
and enjoy each
other’s company.
