Hempstead Town Animal Shelter Continues To Serve
Hempstead's Animal Shelter
Continues to Serve Pet's Needs As Bide-A-Wee Closes Doors
Hempstead Town's Animal Shelter is committed to ensuring the
welfare of dogs and cats by bringing pets together with loving
families, providing shelter for stray animals and offering services
ranging from microchipping to pet therapy.
In the past, many town residents have also utilized the humane animal
welfare organization Bideawee for adoption services. However, after
years of offering superlative pet adoption services to area residents,
Bideawee recently closed its Adoption Center in Wantagh. While
Bideawee's absence will surely be felt, the Town of Hempstead's Animal
Shelter remains eager to assist residents with pet adoption services
and needs. The Animal Shelter will continue to collect and nurture
stray dogs and cats and work to pair pets with secure and happy homes.
"The Town of Hempstead's Animal Shelter has been hard at work bringing
the joys of pet ownership to loving families," Supervisor Kate Murray
said. "Our shelter is now at its lowest capacity in years, attesting
to the success of our pet adoption programs."
Located on Beltagh Avenue in Wantagh, the Animal Shelter boasts one of
the highest adoption rates in the nation. For the convenience of
potential owners, pets available for adoption can be viewed online at
petfinder.com, and the shelter is open six days a week from 9:00 a.m.
to 4:45 p.m.
"Like Bideawee, the Town of Hempstead is committed to the humane care
of animals and to ensuring that cats and dogs are placed into loving
homes where they are valued and treated as members of the family,"
Supervisor Murray added.
Additionally, the shelter offers a number of programs that speak to
the humane treatment and care of animals. Every animal at the shelter
is spayed or neutered free of cost. The shelter also offers
microchipping services, pet therapy visits to nursing homes,
educational programs for school-age children focusing on pet
responsibility, and a senior companion program that pairs senior pets
with senior citizens.
"I would like to remind residents to take advantage of the wonderful
resources our Animal Shelter provides," Supervisor Murray concluded.
"Whether you need help with a loose or stray dog or you have a problem
with a sick or injured cat, Hempstead Town's Animal Shelter is here to
help."
