Town Offers Free Child Car Safety Seat Inspections

Hempstead Town Offers Free Child Car Seat Safety Inspections

Hempstead Town Supervisor Kate Murray announced the summer schedule for Hempstead Town’s Child Car Seat Safety Inspection Program. Hempstead Town's certified Child Passenger Safety Technicians will inspect and properly install child car safety seats and instruct guardians on their proper installation.

“Far too many children are injured unnecessarily due to defective or unsafe car seats. This program aims to change this unfortunate reality,” stated Supervisor Murray.

Town technicians have received rigorous training and are certified by Safe Kids Worldwide, a coalition of 450 health and safety experts, educators, foundations, governments and volunteers. The Child Car Seat Inspection Team will visit communities across the town as follows:

June 25 & 26: Uniondale, Uniondale Park, Uniondale Ave.
July 1 & 2: Merrick, Merrick Road Park, Clubhouse Rd.
July 9 & 10: Bay Park, Hewlett Point Park, Hewlett Point Ave.
July 16 & 17: Salisbury, Salisbury Park Dr. Ballfields, Salisbury Park Dr.
July 23 & 24: Elmont, Elmont Road Park, Elmont Rd.
July 30 & 31: Hempstead, Town Municipal Building, 200 N. Franklin St.,(Public Safety
Dept. Entrance)
August 6 & 7: Franklin Square, Rath Park, 849 Fenworth Blvd.
August 13 & 14: Roosevelt, Roosevelt Pool, 14 Harts Ave.
August 20 & 21: Hicksville, Levittown Hall, Levittown Pkwy.
August 27 & 28: Island Park, Shell Creek Park, Vanderbilt Ave. & Traymore Blvd.

Inspections will take place by appointment only between the hours of 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. Guardians are asked to provide information about the child’s age, weight, height and current car seat.  Inspectors can provide recommendations for appropriate car seats, as well as information about recalls and possible defects. The service is provided free of charge.

“The safety of our children is our most important responsibility. Through this program, we can ensure that Hempstead Town’s youngest residents are safer when they are on the road,” concluded Supervisor Murray.

To schedule an appointment, contact the Town of Hempstead Department of Public Safety at (516) 538-1900, extension 235 or visit the town’s website, www.TOH.LI and follow the Citizen Services link to Public Safety.
