The students of the Elmont School District have put a
lot of effort this year into making the world a better place. From their
work with Assemblyman Tom Alfano to help end the genocide in Dafur,
Africa, to
their
first Model United Nations Conference on world hunger, held on National
Hunger Awareness Day, these youngsters have collectively reached out to
the global community.

The latest example of
Elmont humanitarianism is at the Gotham Avenue School, where the Student
Council raised funds to help orphans and other vulnerable children in
Kenya. The Council raised $250 for the Caroline Wambui Mungai Foundation
(CWMF) through a yearend bake sale. CWMF is working to turn a three-acre
estate in Nairobi into a four-facility residence for 160 children in
need.
"Your financial and moral support is helping us
reach our goal," CWMF President Dr. Georges Mungai told the members of
the Gotham Student Council, in a letter thanking them for their efforts.
He further praised the youngsters for doing their part to "provide
children with the H.E.L.P. (Healthy Economic Literate Potential) they
need to succeed in life.
