The civic will not be holding its December meeting due to the proximity of the upcoming holiday season. The Winter Weather also played a role in this decision as we hope to keep our members safe from any possible hazardous conditions that may come. We remind our members to remove any snow from their sidewalks to prevent any accidents from walkers and to always use caution.
The civic would like to wish all our members a happy, healthy, and prosperous holiday season and a Wonderful New Year in 2004. We hope to continue our success as we had done in the end of 2003 with greater number of members and greater resolutions to the issues affecting our area. We wish that all of our neighbors and friends will take the time to do one important New Years Resolution, and that is being more active in our community. This simple resolution can be achieved by simply attending our civic meetings, and by listening and voicing yours concerns. Together as a community we can achieve many things.
A lot has occurred in the past year. Unfortunately our past president Matt Schlechter passed away but his legacy continues on. The civic has launched its own web site at LoGoA.org and expands its meeting notifications through e-mail, flyers and most importantly word of mouth. It is great to see many more of our neighbors together in our meetings. We have created a new Meeting Advisory Committee which was establishing to help facilitate the procedures and functioning of our meetings due to the great numbers of attendees.
Many good things had occurred in our community this past year. Our Elementary Schools are receiving higher test scores. The library is in the process of acquiring the Alva T. Stanforth School for developing a new Library, which would bring an end to the 18 year problem at that location.
We hope to continue working with our elected officials and law enforcement to keep on improving our community. We are sure that good things are to come if we continue the same focus and direction as we currently have.
Our next 2004 meeting will be on January 15 at 7:30 P.M. at the Elmont Public Library. Please, mark that date on your calendars.
Best wishes and Happy Holidays to all.
