Assemblyman Tom Alfano announced today that New York State
will be administering testing for Correction Officer examinations will be
given. Alfano made the announcement in conjunction with Commissioner Glenn
S. Goord of the Department of Correctional Services.
"This is a special recruitment drive that is looking for those who are trying to get in the field of law enforcement," said Assemblyman Alfano who added, "this is a great career opportunity."
Alfano stated that the minimum qualifications for the examination are that the applicant must have a high school diploma or GED, be an American citizen and, if employment is accepted, be a New York state resident.
Commissioner Goord noted that "after successful completion of the one-year Correction Officer traineeship, which ends after the employee's date of initial appointment to the academy, the salary is set at $34,742 per year."
Alfano commented that the positions come with full New York State benefits which include pension, comprehensive health care and deferred compensation options.
